My aching back!
« on: July 01, 2010, 10:50:55 AM »
I've been driving a '05 Suzuki Boulevard 800 (m50) since February, and with a few mods i like it a little more.  Did my first long trip week past.. and man.. my back was aching!  I tried to concentrate on my riding position a little closer, and it did get better. . but not so i feel i could ride 250k without a break.

Should i be looking at new handlebars or a new seat?  I want to drive this sucker for some real good 7 days trips till the fall.  Comfort is going to be important.

What is the most economical choice?

Upper or lower back? If it was just your butt hurting a seat gel pad or sheepskin will help without forking over a lot of dough

It was lower back, I'm suspecting cause my handlebars are so wide and forward that it is the cause.  But it seems wherever i sit it doesn't make it better.  I suspect i'm only going to have this bike for this season so I need to get a grip on spending money on this and want to make minimal adjustments for better comfort.

Then try the sheepskin. Easy to sell if you dont like it but will fit EVERYTHING you sit on.

It's a really nice daytrip if you stay off the 100 series highways.

If possible you can roll your handlebars back to make them an inch or two closer as well, you my be able to purchase a set of risers (they're a pretty cheap fix) that will also bring things closer. What are you wearing? Tighty whities sometimes cause problems. Try riding commando or wearing boxers or those spandex peddle biking shorts under your regular pants.  Conceder purchasing an after market seat with a drivers backrest when you do acquire a new ride as this will make a major difference in the amount of a$$ time one can spend in the saddle. I have a Mustang seat a with drivers backrest and believe me I wish I'd got one years ago.
Remember, wherever you go... there you are.
