Things Slowing down?
« on: October 24, 2011, 09:17:49 AM »
Things seem to be slowing down pretty good.  Not just out on the road, I mean here at NSBikers as well.  Anyone have some ideas on how to keep things interesting?  Or has the forum part of NSB run its course for this season?

so to continue with this topic, lately I have been wondering if its worth the time and cost to keep NSbikers running.  What do you guys think on the matter?  Not saying I am shutting down or anything, just wondering what you guys think.  The main items that I have been wondering about are the forum and the videos.  With just Melissa and I, the videos take a ton of time and effort, and not really sure what everyone things about them.  The forum on the other hand doesn't take a whole lot of time, but doesn't get much use (I Know at the moment with the weather and such, not a whole lot of people thinking about bike sites)

So whats are your thoughts or opinions?

Can I be honest. Your work on the videos is pretty good, but, here's the honest part, I'm not into the ARL. I'm a cruiser rider, and just love to ride. I don't even follow any type of racing. As for activity on this forum what can we expect from just 4 active members, how do we get more members, I don't know. Another forum I mod on even tried to get all the members to name as many types of bike in their signature lines as possible. The hope was when people searched for a bike type google would pick up on the content and steer a couple people to that site. Didn't work that well. Right now if it is not costing you any money then just leave the site active and we can see what happens. Once you dip into your own pocket then I say close up shop, sorry but you did ask for thoughts.

yeah no worries guys, I did want honest opinions.  Just wanted to know where this all stood in the eyes of someone other then myself.  The site only costs me about $15 a year which is the cost of the domain.  Not a huge deal really.  I own the web hosting company so I don't have any costs attached to this site that I wouldn't have if it wasn't here.

Now the videos on the other hand do cost me a bit of money, not a huge amount mind you.  They do cost the gas to drive to shubie for shooting, which is about $20 a pop.  Once again not a real huge deal.  ARL was kind enough to give us free entry anytime that we wanted to film.  The big thing with them is that time it takes to get them ready to upload.  As you can see I only have 1 video up for this year, and kind of at a stand still with the other 2.  The cameras that I use to film are rented (had them rented for other things anyway) and are currently back at the renter (which they have been since sept) because the batteries crapped out with them.  They told me they would have batteries for them right away, and now I'm stuck with all my work on them and them over at the shop.  Once I do get them back, its about 30+ hours of editing, searching, scripting, etc to release a video.  Guess I'm ready trying to see if its worth all the time I put into it.  I do enjoy doing it, don't get me wrong, but I would rather start making other kinds of videos that people have interest in if these ones are dead ends.
